Spiritual Workout (intro)

"Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come." 1 Timothy 4:8 (NLT)

According to a study done by a popular media network- Americans spend over $1 billion a year on fitness memberships alone.

In our quest to train our bodies-physically- we pledge... dedicate... devote ourselves to a fitness workout or routine.

Although we know that physical fitness is "good"- Paul reminds us in the above scripture that training ourselves in "godliness"- devotion to God- is much better! It helps us not only in this life but our life to come.... our eternal life.

So, just as we dedicate ourselves to physical training, the same time... energy... commitment and discipline is needed to maintain a healthy spiritual body.

Think about your routine... your workout... Is it one that you do on a regular basis or when it is convenient to your schedule.

Our spiritual routine or workout should consist of:

1. Reading and studying our Bibles:
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
2. Prayer:
Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 (KJV)
3. Worship:
But the time is coming-indeed it's here and now-when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way. John 4:23 (NLT)
4. Fellowship:
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.
Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
5. Sharing our Faith:
I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.
1 Corinthians 9:23 (NLT)

Over this week my blog will be a series on staying spiritually fit... because if we are fit in godliness we are more productive servants in the Kingdom of God!
